Professor Reuven Or, M.D. Director of Department of BMT, Cancer Immunotherapy, Cell Therapy, Transplantation and ResearchCenter
Prof. Or has been involved in the field of transplantation medicine since the early 1980’s. After attaining his Medical degree from the University of Milan, Italy, he continued his post-graduate studies in immunology at the University of Colorado,USA. There he focused on the role of cells of the immune system, the different ways they become activated, and the signals involved in controlling their functions. The knowledge he obtained has allowed him to be involved in developing ground breaking research strategies and novel treatment techniques for cancer immunotherapy.
During his time in Hadassah, he has established a research laboratory that develops and is involved in several clinical trials a year, and directs the ambulatory day care center in order to provide continuity of care for patients following transplant. He currently resides as the Director of the Department of BMT, Cancer Immunotherapy, Cell Therapy, Transplantation and Research Center; The Medical Director of the Hadassah Volunteer Bone Marrow Registry, and the Israeli National Public Umbilical Cord Blood Bank. In 2008, Professor Or was awarded the prestigious Menachem Begin Prize for his work in establishing two major national medical projects: the stem cell and the umbilical blood banks. Prof. Or’s dedication, empathy, and genuine care for each individual who walks through his department, has earned the respect of both colleagues and patients.
He lives in Israel with his wife, children, and grandchildren
