EWA KOZELA

RESEARCH FELLOW
SACKLER SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Ewa is a Neuropharmacologist with almost 20 years of experience in experimental neurobiology. Ewa has investigated anti-pain and addictive properties of opiates, bioactive constituents of Papaver (poppy) plant, and for the past 10 years has been studying if and how phytocannabinoids (Cannabis constituents), particularly non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD), diminish neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration by targeting various immune cells that endanger brain function. These cells include microglia and astrocytes populating the brain as well as memory T cells infiltrating the brain in pathological conditions. Ewa’s interest lies in the intracellular mechanisms of cannabinoid activity, including signaling pathways and gene expression.
