How did Plant Consulting Come to Be?
The founders and lead consultants of Plant, Ms. Wise and Mr. Millard, have a combined 20+ years of hands-on extraction and formulation experience working in both domestic and international cannabis markets. They were the Heads of Science and Extraction, respectively, at one of the largest cannabinoid infused product companies in the United States, and were a part of the team that developed and introduced the first hemp based cannabinoid dietary supplement products onto the world market. Mr. Masonek is a lawyer with decades of international business experience and has acted as counsel for a high-level cannabis company. Plant, was founded in March of 2015 by Ms. Wise, Mr. Millard and Mr. Masonek to provide extraction, formulation and cannabis science educational services to the international and national cannabis industries. Since then, Plant has assisted several clients with various projects from batch scale development of product SKUs to commercial scale separation and purification of individual cannabinoids.

Meet the Plant Team
Ms. Tamar Wise has dual degrees in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Biochemistry and specializes in the formulation of cannabinoid-based medicine delivery systems and the pharmacology of cannabis medicines in the human body, with a focus on the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
Ms. Wise is a strong proponent of cannabinoid-based treatment as a replacement for pharmaceutical drugs and believes that cannabiceuticals will be the medicine of the future. She has over 9 years of experience in the cannabis industry domestically and internationally and was an integral part of the team that developed and introduced the Dixie Botanicals brand of hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) products, the first hemp-based phytocannabinoid dietary supplements to be sold openly on the world market. Ms. Wise is currently a senior partner at Plant Consulting Group, LLC, where she works with clients on formulation and product R&D, medicine delivery systems application and bioavailability, dosing requirements, pharmacokinetics/dynamics of cannabinoids, and other bioactive, plant-based molecules, in the body, developing standardized operating procedures as well as training for the manufacture of cannabis products, and much more to help develop the safest, most efficient products that are uniquely tailored to each client.
Ms. Wise is also the Chief Science Officer of the international cannabinoid nutraceutical company, Applied Botanical Sciences, Inc. She was the former secretary of the Hemp Industries Association’s (HIA) Cannabinoid Committee, is currently a member of the ASTM’s D37 Cannabis Technical Committee, is a member of the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines, as well as an Associate Partner with the Indian Industrial Hemp Association (IIHA.) Ms. Wise has spoken at many national and international events, as well as continuing education seminars for medical professionals. Ms. Wise is active in assisting to create and define legislation and spread cannabis science education for the burgeoning cannabis industry both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Darwin Millard has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and specializes in mechanical and solvent based extraction methodologies for isolating highly volatile terpenophenolic secondary metabolites from botanicals. He has spent the last ten years focusing on the extraction, and manufacture of nutraceutical products comprising of phytocannabinoids and other bioactive constituents from Cannabis. His efforts have been directed towards developing commercially viable extraction and refinement methods for utilizing various techniques for the isolation of mono-specific cannabinoids from Cannabis on the industrial scale, as well as the development and implementation of standardized operating procedures for the manufacture of cannabis products. Mr. Millard is a strong proponent of cannabinoid-based treatment therapies as a replacement for pharmaceutical drugs, and was an integral part of the team that developed and introduced the Dixie Botanicals brand of hemp based cannabidiol (CBD) products, the first hemp-based phytocannabinoid dietary supplements to be sold openly on the world market. Mr. Millard is currently a senior partner at Plant Consulting Group, LLC, where he works with clients on the bench scale and the commercial scale to assist them in developing cannabis extraction and refinement techniques that increase process efficiencies, decrease cost of goods and allow for the separation and purification of individual cannabinoids.
Mr. Millard is also the Chief Technical Officer of the international cannabinoid nutraceutical company, Applied Botanical Sciences, Inc., as well as the former chair of the Hemp Industries Association’s (HIA) Cannabinoid Committee. Mr. Millard is currently the Vice Chair of the ASTM’s D37.04 subcommittee on Processing and Handling and is the overall Industrial Hemp Liaison of the ASTM’s D37 Cannabis Technical Committee, and an Associate Partner with the Indian Industrial Hemp Association (IIHA.) Mr. Millard is active in assisting to create and define legislation for the burgeoning cannabis industry both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Jeffrey Masonek is a member of the California State Bar and heads up Plant Consulting Group’s legal team and is the company’s lead business strategy consultant. He received his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University and his law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law. He served as a former adjunct Professor of Business Law at the University of San Francisco and was a former commissioner for the San Francisco County Commission on Juvenile Justice. Mr. Masonek was senior trade consultant for the San Francisco World Trade Center, and has extensive international business experience. He served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for M-C International Inc., one of the leading international trade companies in the United States, where he managed overseas offices throughout the Pacific Rim. Mr. Masonek was also CEO of Merchants Duty Free LLC, a major distributor representing several consumer goods manufacturers. Mr. Masonek served as General Counsel for the U.S. division of one of the leading cannabis companies in the world. He uses his Cannabis experience as well as his decades of international business experience to guide Plant’s clients interested in furthering their business development either through local, regional, national or global brand expansion.
Julie Fry has extensive experience in quality control compliance and regulatory standards for the acquisition, manufacturing, and production of pharmaceutical and food grade materials, including Cannabis. Her experience includes a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in the derivation and implementation of a variety of International Organization for Standardization standards (ISO 13485:2016, 22000:2005, 17025:2005, 9001:2008), as well as cGMP and cGLP protocols. Ms. Fry has worked in many different laboratory settings, both in academia and within the biotechnology and Cannabis industries, and because of this, uniquely understands how to take a product from bench-top to market correctly.
She gained her first experience in an academic laboratory setting at The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University while attaining a bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry. Ms. Fry then obtained a master’s degree in Biochemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zürich). She is also a subject matter expert (technical English) editor and an active participant in the Virginia NORML chapter as well as the Cannabis Commonwealth. Recently, Ms. Fry has been assisting Plant Consulting Group in their international cannabis science consulting and education. She is currently a member of the ASTM’s D37 Cannabis Technical Committee, tasked with drafting universal Cannabis standards and best practices, as well as a member of the ACS’s CANN, the Cannabis chapter of the American Chemical Society. Ms. Fry is currently based out of Switzerland, where she is also involved in MedCan, a Swiss organization that is geared toward patient education and advocacy.
